PULSE OXIMETER

Oxford dictionary explains it as an oximeter that measures the proportion of oxygenated haemoglobin in the blood in pulsating vessels, especially the capillaries of the finger or ear.

Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive test to measure your blood's oxygen saturation level. It can rapidly detect minimal changes in oxygen levels. These levels show how efficiently blood carries oxygen to the extremities furthest from your heart, including your arms and legs.

The pulse oximeter is a clip-like small device attached to your finger to monitor oxygen level.

Benefits

The pulse oximeter has the purpose of checking if your blood is oxygenated well.

Medical professionals may use pulse oximeters to monitor people's health with conditions that affect blood oxygen levels, especially in the hospital.

These can include:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Lung cancer
  • Heart attack or Heart failure
  • Congenital heart disease
